Question: Respected Sir, In your Lect-23(Problem#4),it is said that if axial velocity is constant then for impulse turbines,v2=v3=c3.My doubt is, since beta2=beta3 we get v2=v3 but how it is equal to c3?I get alpha3=21.75deg so c3 comes around 161.5m/s while v2=v3=341.15m/s.Kindly correct me if i'm wrong.
By: Krishn     Date: 2012-12-06

Answer: Please check the velocity triangle. When the axial velocity is constant, for an impulse turbine rotor, V2=V3=C3. Here you should be getting alpha3=beta3 and beta2. Please re-check.
