Four day NPTEL Course-Specific workshop was conducted at IIT Madras on System Identification during August 10- 13th, 2011.The workshop started on August 10th with the Inaugural function

Members present on the stage for the Inaugural function:

- Prof. Arun Tangirala, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Madras.
The Subject Matter Expert (SME) was Prof. Arun. K. Tangirala, Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Madras, whose web contents was designed to be developed in Phase II of NPTEL.
Participants from following discipline of Engineering attended the workshop- Aerospace Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Engineering Design. Faculty who attended the workshop were with 3-10 years of teaching experience, who are teaching and chosen from different colleges in India. Few students from IIT Madras also participated in this workshop. Some of the participants were also from BARC. In large, it benefits Faculty, Scientist, Research scholars, students who attended the workshop.
This workshop focused on the four quadrants for the course:
- Theory – Explaining the concept
- Examples- Illustration
- Hand outs as Reference material & Case studies
- Problems and Assignment - Assignment – Computer(Hands-on)Sessions
Prior to the sessions, workshop hand-outs were distributed to all participants on all days.
Participants were encouraged to bring their own laptop with the MATLAB (with system Identification tool) software installed. A hour and a half was explicitly allocated daily for computer (Hands-on) sessions, where participants discussed on identifying the given problems, writing code and solving problems. The session covered the overview, some classic examples and practical examples of MATLAB software which gave hand on experience of software.
On August 13th, Valedictory function was held .

Participation certificate was given to all the participants. Certificate was also given to students who attended the workshop on all days of the workshop.
